CONTENT: Black Panthers giving a news conference about inequalities of material items.
CITATION: Created in the early 1970's. This is a news conference created by the media.
CONTEXT: The Vietnam War was happening, on the tail end of the Hippie Movement. THe Watergate Conspiracy was beginning.
CONNECTIONS: This particular group was demonstrating that too few had nothing. The Black Panthers ultimately condemned black nationalism as "black racism". They became more focused on socialism without racial exclusivity.[6] They instituted a variety of community programs to alleviate poverty and improve health among communities deemed most needful of aid. While the party retained its all-black membership, it recognized that different minority communities (those it deemed oppressed by the American government) needed to organize around their own set of issues and encouraged alliances with such organizations. The group's political goals were often overshadowed by their confrontational and militaristic tactics, and by their suspicions of law enforcement agents. The Black Panthers considered them as oppressors to be overcome by a willingness to take up armed self-defense.[7]
Prior Knowledge: This era was extremely motivated around civil rights and social tension across race and economic stratisphere.
COMMUNICATION: Actual picture from the event.
